IMPACT: UMOM is the largest family homeless shelter in Arizona, helping families break the cycle of homelessness by providing food, shelter, and tools to build a bridge to self-sufficiency. UMOM offers education, childcare, health screenings, wellness programs, resources for financial assistance, job training, medical services, legal assistance, and more.

ISSUE: Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, with 1 in 50 children homeless at some point. To accommodate this growing number of homeless families in Arizona, and to address its aging, inadequate facilities, UMOM decided it needed a new campus home.

SOLUTION: The Phoenix Philanthropy Group developed and helped execute a multi-tiered capital campaign that included campaign volunteer leadership; assistance with the government bond and grants process; campaign infrastructure; marketing materials; prospect development including research, cultivation, and solicitation strategies; and donor proposal development.

RESULT: UMOM has successfully completed phase one of their $18 million capital campaign which will provide new and expanded homeless shelter facilities and services for families. Key community leaders involved in phase one of the campaign, and others, will provide leadership to see UMOM through the next $5 million campaign phase to complete the facility upgrades and construction.
